Ohio State Football: Top 5 Incoming FreshmanIt’s no wonder Ohio State football is consistently atop the national rankings. Each year they go out and get the nation’s best recruits. This past offseason was more of the same. Here are the Buckeyes top five freshman entering the 2010 season:
Roderick Smith, RB Smith has been nationally rated as the seventh best, high school running back in his senior class. His combination of height and speed draws comparisons to former Buckeyes Eddie George and Beanie Wells. An overall great athlete, Smith earned all-conference basketball honors and was a heralded track star. Although Smith is not expecting to get many carries this season, he will be able to grow and learn with veterans Brandon Saine and Boom Harron dominating the carries this season. This will allow him to come into his own as a collegiate running back.
It is always nice when the Bucks can snag a Florida kid away from the jaws of that particular recruiting region. Louis, a four star recruit, and the nation’s 12 th ranked high school wide receiver, is a kid with tremendous speed and athleticism. The kid possesses some of the best quickness and acceleration of any receiver in this class and he can be a dangerous weapon in all three phases of the passing game. As a senior in high school, Louis accounted for 38 catches, 682 yards, and ten touchdowns. Look for Louis to be used in some special teams packages this season.
Corey Brown, WR Anytime the Buckeyes can add an All-American track sprinter to one of their skilled positions, they greatly improve their team. Corey Brown does this with his superb athletic ability, speed, and change-of-direction skills. For his high school career, he tallied numbers of 3,000 yards rushing, 1,500 yards receiving and 50 touchdowns scored. Having also played some running back, Brown should rack up some solid yards-after-the-catch once he gets the opportunity to play. When that will be is still up in the air, but Brown’s big play potential could land him on the field somewhere this season.
