The Amazing Race: Pryor's committment to come
Signing day looms on February 6th with three Big Ten teams battling each other to obtain the signature of prized recruit Terrelle Pryor. Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State are all possible destinations for the Army All American Bowl MVP. The dual threat star from Jeannette High School in Pennsylvania was thought to be a lock to attend Ohio State and follow in the footsteps of former Heisman winner Troy Smith, but Rich Rodriguez’s appointment as Michigan’s head coach has changed that perception. The Maize and Blue was never on Pryor’s list of destinations until Rodriguez’s spread offense was brought in to replace Lloyd Carr’s pro style offense. Pryor made a recruiting trip to Ann Arbour on January 18th and was serenaded by the Michigan fans when he arrived at Crisler Arena to take in the Wolverines basketball game against Iowa. He is said to be a fan of Rodriguez’s spread attack and with Ryan Mallett transferring to Arkansas, he could be handed over the keys to Michigan’s offense as a true freshman.
Pryor’s upcoming decision has the recruiting world captivated as he showed up at the All American Bowl in San Antonio wearing a Michigan sweatshirt but then bore a Buckeye sticker on the back of his helmet during the game. Penn State seems to be the dark horse in this race that will go down to the wire. Pryor will also be making a visit to Baton Rouge to speak with LSU’s Les Miles and Oregon is also said to be on his shortlist, but Eugene may be too far away for his liking. College football recruiting insiders also have different opinions on where Pryor will land. Rivals.com expects that the final decision will come down to Michigan or Ohio State with Jeremy Crabtree and Barry Every predicting that the dual threat quarterback will chose Columbus, while Barton Simmons thinks that Ann Arbor will be his likely destination. Signing day is always full of drama and suspense and recruits sometimes pull last minute U-turns, but it looks as if Pryor will be playing football in the Big Ten next year; the only question that remains is which uniform he will be wearing.
