University of Michigan head football coach Lloyd Carr officially announced his reitrement on Monday after a stellar career coaching the Wolverines. Carr went 121-40 over 13 seasons at Michigan including 5-7 in bowl games and 6-7 against rival Ohio State and won the 1997 AP National Championship. Carr announced his retirement recently leaving the door open for the Michigan football coaching rumors to begin. While media speculation has been centered around Les Miles at LSU who played under Bo Schembechler at Michigan, Lloyd Carr was quick to point out that Fielding Yost and Bo Schembechler were not "Michigan Men" originally.

Miles claimed he was not interested at a recent press conference, but Michigan asked for and was granted permission to talk to Miles following the SEC Championship game on December 1st. ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit reported that Miles will be named Michigan's new head coach in the coming week, however later that day Miles denied the report.
